If you wish to publish a work in one of our collections, the first thing to do is to fill in a request for publication and send it to us by e-mail or by post.
Examination of requests
If you work for Cirad, Ifremer, Inra or Irstea, your request will be passed on to your organization's internal editorial committee, which will judge whether it would be appropriate to support it and, if necessary, may help you to improve it. The request will then be submitted to the Quae editorial committee.
If you do not work for any of these organizations, your request will be examined directly by the editorial office, which will judge its relevance to the publisher's editorial policy. If the members approve your request, it will be passed on to the Quae editorial committee.
Acceptance of the request
You will receive a decision on your request within a month of the next editorial committee meeting. If the decision is favourable, an editor will meet with you and give you certain instructions and recommendations (style and form to be adapted to the target readership, maximum/minimum number of pages, number and type of illustrations possible depending on the collection, etc). Before beginning to draft your manuscript, you are strongly encouraged to read the advice and recommendations given in the Notes to authors. You may also consult the template with style sheets, style sheets, which should be of help. Acceptance will not be final until the manuscript has been given scientific approval. Each manuscript is reviewed by a member of its target readership. You will be required to make any corrections requested by the reviewer. Once your manuscript has been accepted, please contact our legal team (see contracts and permission to reproduce). The publisher's production team will work closely with the author in producing the work. Information on the files and documents to be supplied to the publisher is given in the Note to authors. For more details, contact the production team.
According to the Berne Convention for the Protection of Artistic and Literary Works and the Intellectual Property Act, you will be asked to relinquish your rights and provide proof of permission to reproduce any parts of your manuscript already published elsewhere.
Transfer of copyright and contracts
For a collective or collaborative work, each principal author of each article (or chapter) and each author of illustrations will have to transfer copyright before publication. The coordinator of the work in question should send each of them the relevant form. If there are several illustrations, a list of illustrations and captions should be appended to the copyright transfer form.
The author or coordinator of the work will be required to sign a publication contract transferring his or her copyright in exchange for the publisher's undertaking to publish the work, specifying the agreed conditions. The contract will be submitted to the author or coordinator by our legal team.
Permission to reproduce
Authors should provide the publisher with an original text and illustrations. If any part of the manuscript is drawn from a work already published, permission to reproduce the element in question must be obtained from the publisher of that work, and the source of the element must be quoted in full (see the Note to authors).
Request forms for permission to reproduce, for submission to the publishers concerned, are available in French and English.
