This book analyses the impact that agricultural practices have on the productive, economic, environmental and social performance of metropolitan agriculture in France. It addresses a variety of topics such as tilling techniques, fertilisation, plant protection and animal health, plant and animal breeding, animal husbandry and the selection of agricultural equipment; an up-close look at over 200 agricultural practices divided into 15 categories.
Based on general questions on the innovative conception and evaluation of systems, this number explores different levers of radical changes being toyed with in livestock farming: precision farming, industrial ecology, agro-ecology, with their sub-divisions (sensors fitted to the animals, fish farming with recirculated water, low input dairy systems). Two articles round out the panorama by looking at listing innovations in livestock farms in France and the diversified dynamics of innovation and change in Africa.
The link between green tides, nitrogen flows and agriculture has been established, but which agroecological transitions suit the region and how do we embark on them with the stakeholders in question? To respond, the players rely on the results of the research programme ACASSYA "Support agroecological changes in livestock systems in coastal catchment areas".
This work makes updated scientific knowledge of nitrogen flows on livestock farms and their fate available to policymakers and public and private players. It also identifies technological, organisational, structural or territorial options to reduce the pressures of nitrogen emissions from farms on the environment.
Soil fertility is at the crossroads of the challenges of food security, environmental protection and economic profitability of the agricultural activity. This book presents the results of a long-term reflection on the context of fertilisation in the next five to ten years. It defines the needs in terms of methods and tools for managing biogeochemical cycles and integrating fertilisation into agriculture.
The purpose of this guide is to provide guidance to the smaller livestock farmers in the satisfactory management of manures produced (units targeted should not annually produce more than 1,000 tonnes of solid or 5,000 tonnes of liquid manure).
This report briefly describes the sources of emissions of ammonia gas and their impact on the environment, on the cycle and use of nitrogen in the soil and on human and animal health. It provides an overview of research conducted to develop and ...
