Summary

With their exceptional biodiversity, the oceans provide many services essential to human life, including oxygen production, climate regulation, and food supply. These vital resources for the planet’s future are, however, under increasing pressure, which calls into question our current understanding of these environments.

What do we really know about the oceans and the changes taking place within them? Is the Moon the only factor influencing the tides? Do corals also live in cold waters? New species of marine mammals continue to be identified even today. As for the overfishing of marine resources, it is not necessarily irreversible.

By shedding scientific light on the misconceptions often associated with the oceans, this book explores their physical properties, the diversity of life they harbor, the resources they provide, and the pressures affecting them.
