Cette réputation est confortée par les nombreuses interactions d’orques avec des bateaux qui ont lieu dans le détroit de Gibraltar depuis 2020, provoquant une véritable « orcinophobie ».</p><p>Pourtant, les comportements des épaulards en milieu naturel et leur écologie restent largement méconnus du grand public. Dotés d’une énorme capacité d’apprentissage, les orques vivent en groupes familiaux très structurés et présentent des comportements culturels diversifiés (communication, techniques de chasse, jeux…). <p>In the marine food chain, the killer whale occupies the top of the pyramid. Falsely likened to a killer whale, it has long been reduced to a fearsome predator. This reputation is reinforced by the numerous interactions between killer whales and boats that have taken place in the Strait of Gibraltar since 2020, causing a veritable “killer whale phobia.”</p><p>However, the behavior of killer whales in their natural environment and their ecology remain largely unknown to the general public. With an enormous capacity for learning, orcas live in highly structured family groups and exhibit diverse cultural behaviors (communication, hunting techniques, games, etc.). Furthermore, although the species is not globally threatened, environmental changes are putting certain populations at risk.</p><p>Summarizing current knowledge about orcas, this book offers a critical perspective on misconceptions about these animals and invites readers to discover their world through immersive and captivating photos.</p>

<p>Dans la chaîne alimentaire marine, l’orque occupe le sommet de la pyramide. Faussement assimilée à une baleine tueuse, elle a longtemps été réduite à un prédateur redoutable. Cette réputation est confortée par les nombreuses interactions d’orques avec des bateaux qui ont lieu dans le détroit de Gibraltar depuis 2020, provoquant une véritable « orcinophobie ».</p><p>Pourtant, les comportements des épaulards en milieu naturel et leur écologie restent largement méconnus du grand public. Dotés d’une énorme capacité d’apprentissage, les orques vivent en groupes familiaux très structurés et présentent des comportements culturels diversifiés (communication, techniques de chasse, jeux…). Par ailleurs, si l’espèce n’est pas globalement menacée, les changements environnementaux mettent certaines populations en danger.</p><p>Synthétisant les connaissances actuelles sur les orques, ce livre offre un éclairage critique sur les fausses idées attachées à ces animaux, et invite à découvrir leur monde grâce à des photos immersives et captivantes.</p>
<p>In the marine food chain, the killer whale occupies the top of the pyramid. Falsely likened to a killer whale, it has long been reduced to a fearsome predator. This reputation is reinforced by the numerous interactions between killer whales and boats that have taken place in the Strait of Gibraltar since 2020, causing a veritable “killer whale phobia.”</p><p>However, the behavior of killer whales in their natural environment and their ecology remain largely unknown to the general public. With an enormous capacity for learning, orcas live in highly structured family groups and exhibit diverse cultural behaviors (communication, hunting techniques, games, etc.). Furthermore, although the species is not globally threatened, environmental changes are putting certain populations at risk.</p><p>Summarizing current knowledge about orcas, this book offers a critical perspective on misconceptions about these animals and invites readers to discover their world through immersive and captivating photos.</p>
