Jean-Denis Vigne

A researcher at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), Jean-Denis Vigne is one of the world's leading specialists in animal domestication, early animal husbandry and the Neolithic transition, which he approaches from a long-term, biocultural perspective. He has worked mainly on the Mediterranean basin and its islands, but also in Europe, Central Asia and China.
Highly involved in new technologies, he has directed a dozen excavations and authored nearly 300 scientific articles. He helped found and then directed the Bioarchaeology Laboratory at the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle and the CNRS. He founded the national network of French bioarchaeologists.
