Summary

Stickiness of cotton fibres is a major economic problem for the cotton sector, from the grower to the processing stage in the textile industry. A meeting held in Montpellier on 26 June 2000 provided the opportunity of quantifying for the first time the extent of the problems encountered at the spinning stage, and of suggesting possible solutions such as grading bales in uniformly sticky batches, using an H2SD (High Speed Stickiness Detector), or determining the effect of relative humidity and of mixing sticky and non-sticky cottons.
