Spécial bassin du Congo

This special issue of Bois et forêts des Tropiques looks at the second largest tropical forest zone in the world. There have been many international initiatives in the region, aimed at the conservation and rational use of its resources. The countries concerned have also embarked, both individually and collectively, on stringent programmes and reforms intended to ensure more efficient forest management. Over and above the difficulties and pitfalls, it is important to recognize the significant efforts made by both the public and private sectors, which are now bearing fruit. Research needs to be continued and its results converted into operational applications for the benefit of the stakeholders involved.
