Summary

Many different types of organisations now include risk management within their range of activities. Since the legitimacy of the specialist is linked to his or her affiliation with the scientific community, the right to error or doubt is constantly challenged. The role of the expert is now to be able to see into the future, and even to predict future events, often within a framework that opposes scientific methods to non-scientific approaches. Illustrated by the case of risk in the mountains, this analysis is devoted to know-how at both the social and scientific levels. It is particularly intended for experts, developers and all those involved in risk prevention.
