The texts in this book trace the research career of an agronomist who spent more than thirty years analysing farmer practices in Senegal, Burkina Faso and Madagascar. Three topics are covered in succession: farmers’ technical performance in relation to production elaboration; technical change and agrarian dynamics; and the interrelations between agricultural and pastoral activities, surroundings and the environment. This work, which was partly conducted within a multidisciplinary framework, fits into the field ofagronomy while demonstrating its interfaces with geography and ecology.
