Summary

No anthropological study has been carried out to date in Brenne, a still-secret wetland with its thousands of ponds.
Geneviève Bedoucha has been curious for several years to enter this environment, to explore waters given over to fish farming since the monastic era. Based on historical sources, she shows the fundamental link between water and society when nothing would suggest, in this wetland, that water could be considered and managed as a precious resource.
Highly ritualised, the fishing days, which scan the long winters, bring men of different social classes together, tightening the links.
