Applied ethology studies the behaviour of animals in their natural environment and interacting with man. Various models are studied: commercial animals, pets, laboratory animals, sport animals, wild animals and even entomofauna. The approach has fairly recently been extended to human behaviours. Applied ethology addresses numerous societal concerns, like respect of animal well-being, environmental protection and biodiversity, sustainability of production systems, regional development and improved human health.This work attempts to make this fledgling discipline known to a wider audience, including biologists, teachers and students as well as professionals in livestock breeding, agronomy, the pharmaceutical and veterinary industries, people dealing with wild fauna, marketing and education specialists and members of associations concerned with animal well-being.
