Summary

Genetic markers are widely used to estimate polymorphism and predict changes in plant populations. Progress in studies of plant genomes has fostered the development of molecular markers that target a specific region of one of the genomes (nuclear, chloroplastic and mitochondrial). Developments in genomics have provided access to the genes that control adaptive characters, which are very important for genetic resource management. This work does not restrict itself to forest trees: it presents the main genome analysis methods and their major characteristics.
