Summary

Around twenty lepidopteran species (Crambidae, Pyralidae and Noctuidae) are the main pests on cereals in most regions of sub-Saharan Africa. Their caterpillars attack the stems of cereals, often killing the plants. This book provides the basic information required for implementing an integrated control strategy against these pests, using natural ennemies found locally: the damage caused depending on the region, host plants; the biology of the species, rearing techniques; the taxonomy of these lepidopterans and of their natural enemies; the control methods. It is intended for all those working towards integrated pest management in the Tropics.
