Summary

The European eel (Anguilla anguilla) is a threatened species. This methodological guide looks at the species' general biology and highlights the physiological, behavioural, populational and ecological characteristics of most use in assessing its indicators of abundance, the type of modifications its natural environment has undergone in recent decades, and the pressure exerted by man. It provides tools and methods to serve as references for managers, scientists and users in implementing the management and restoration plans scheduled for 2009 under European regulations.
