Summary

This CD-ROM geared towards identifying woody species in the Sahel lists 361 native or introduced species. The system, which is entirely graphic, operates on the basis of an identikit picture, based on easily observable characters and commonly used botanical and technical terms. The choice of possible species is reduced as the identikit picture becomes more precise, until the system proposes one or more species. This makes it possible to identify the plant collected precisely, using photographs–general views and details–and descriptions of the species concerned. The CD-ROM is intended for amateur botanists, professionals working in natural environments (agronomists, foresters, pastoralists), teachers and students, and nature lovers with a good sense of observation. It is accompanied by a 28-page colour booklet.
