In his Essai sur les techniques dans les sociétés pré-machinistes (Essay on technologies in pre-machine societies), André-Georges Haudricourt, a key figure in French anthropology, shares his thoughts on walking, launching, carrying and using water and wind and many other gestures noted in many societies. This previously unpublished work takes the guise of a manual and includes many drawings by Igor de Garine, requested specifically by Haudricourt. The essay presented and commented by Jean-François Bert is supported by previously unpublished articles by the ethnologist.
