Summary

Since the early 1970s, rapid and abundant increases in European Water Voles have caused considerable damage in noted livestock farming areas (Auvergne, Franche-Comté, etc.) with numerous consequences on the economy, health and fauna. The chemical solution proposed firstly had harmful side effects for the beneficial fauna and game. The "vole" problem has now extended throughout society. Several action plans between 1992 and 2007 took account of the overall study of processes and the search for sustainable solutions to introduce integrated control methods. The assessment featured in this work illustrates how a systemic approach can help control a pest.
