In the Nordeste region of Brazil, family-run farms are generally seen as unproductive and unsuited to the current situation of economic liberalization. This book shows that this is in fact not the case, and that the smallholder sector is changing radically. It gives a reminder of the historical and geographical background of the sector and goes on to cover land structuring, the range of farms and how they have changed, how producers are organized, production system dynamics and product processing.
